UNDER A BANNER @ PLANET ROCKSTOCK 2016

Naomi Jeremiah

What a festival! My first time attending Planet Rockstock, and I can guarantee it will not be my last. Superbly organised event, with talent after talent ripping up the two stages over the entire weekend.

On Saturday I ventured to Stage 2 to see a five piece band from Wolverhampton named UNDER A BANNER. From the very first note, I knew that this band was different to any of the others, and to a degree quite unlike anything I had heard before. So they had my full attention from the off.

UNDER A BANNER are difficult to place genre wise, as they are such a magnificent blend of many sounds, but they describe themselves as Alternative Hard Rock / Folk / Metal, which makes for some truly epic songs! I can't get away from the fact that they also have a really piratey sound to them. This is intriguing, fun and makes UNDER A BANNER's passion shine through in the most glorious manner. You want to listen to what they have to say, as they almost chant melodically at you. Their lyrics are intelligent, and showcase their scintillating wit. You almost feel invigorated after each and every song. They fire you up, as you all gather 'Under A Banner'.

UNDER A BANNER are Adam Broadhurst (Acoustic Guitar/Lead Vocals), Tim Wilson (Drums / Percussion/Vocals), Si Hill (Bass), Jake Brooks (Guitar & Vocals) & Kat Davis (Keyboards). Despite suffering with a chest cold, Adam did a fantastic job with the vocals, you can see he feels every word of the lyrics, his passion contagious. I adored listening to Jake's guitar solos, this guy is talented, so cool and laid back in his performance, and yet his fretwork is on fire!! The band as a whole come at you in a powerful and raw anti establishment manner. I enjoy this personally. UNDER A BANNER are a band that need to be seen live. Part of the experience is feeling the live passion that they emit and hearing the messages within their songs. Until you are able to catch a live show, check out their latest album 'The Wild Places', which was produced by Alistair Jamieson at Park Studios in Birmingham and mastered by Jon Astley.

I loved listening to UNDER A BANNER's set, and I can't wait to see them at a headline show soon.
